Prosthodontics is the dental speciality pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of the oral function, comfort, appearance and health of patients with missing or deficient teeth and or oral and maxillofacial tissues using biocompatible substitutes.

The department educates undergraduates and post graduates and the courses are approved by Dental Council of India. The undergraduate course is of five years program including one year internship. The department offers a postgraduate training program of three years duration. The postgraduate curriculum includes extensive clinical and laboratory phases of prosthodontic training in the areas of complete denture, fixed and removable partial denture, implant supported prosthesis and maxillofacial prosthesis. Students showed active participation in national and international level speciality related conferences in the form of scientific paper presentation, poster presentation, table clinic presentations. The academic activities include regular seminar and journal clubs presentations, case presentations, library research work and this is as a part of post graduation program.

To render high quality training and laboratory techniques, the post graduate laboratories are featured with most up to date equipments like high precision induction casting machine, fully automatic all ceramic and porcelain fused to metal ceramic furnaces and milling machine. The department has an oral implantology clinic, regularly functioning with implant surgeries using standard quality systems.

In addition, the department library is adequately stocked with contemporary books from national and international publication houses with internet facility.

The department has a surplus clinical material, receiving 60-70 numbers of patients per day.

Treatment rendered in the department are conventional complete denture, immediate denture, over denture, single complete denture, cast partial denture, flexible denture, crowns and bridges, implant supported prosthesis, full mouth rehabilitation, oral and maxillofacial prosthesis.
